Middle East’s First Ecocity World Summit Calls for submissions of Innovations and Solutions to promote ecocities of the future

The Ecocity World Summit (ECWS) 2015, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi from 11 to 13 October 2015, calls on the wider community to submit their concept notes on the subject of innovations and creative solutions that promote more liveable and sustainable cities for the future through the Summit’s Innovations track.

The Summit offers authors the unique opportunity to present their work on innovative ideas and creative solutions to a top-calibre audience of public and private-sector leaders, eco-experts from the UAE and around the world. Submissions for the track of Innovations and Solutions are welcomed until the deadline of 15 May 2015. Following review, selected innovations and solutions can potentially be adopted and incubated by relevant target audience, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s), industries and governmental and inter-governmental agencies.

The Summit’s Innovations track offers a rare opportunity to present creative solutions promoting ecocities of the future. Entrepreneurs, visionaries, students, academics, industrialists and businesses are invited to participate and have the opportunity to showcase sustainable, creative and liveable urban solutions in all fields that contribute to a movement towards becoming ecocities. Submissions should be presented in a concept note format and must include problem identification, approach to solution, proposed solution, practicality, feasibility and target audience and users.

Ecocity World Summit 2015 will enable the development of lasting solutions that support ecologically-sound cities. The three-day event will encompass a range of activities including workshops, case study presentations, roundtable discussions, charrettes, debates, and academic panels around various topics such as “Eco”nomics of Ecocities, Getting to One Planet Living, The City We Need and Social Systems of Healthy Cities, Resilience on the ground: learning from the citizen; besides other environmental issues.

In addition, the Summit is offering a three-day complimentary registration pass for accepted authors. Accepted authors benefit from complimentary invitation to the Summit’s welcome reception, publication of their papers in a conference journal with an ISBN number, complimentary lunches, complimentary access to all event related field trips and excursions as well other benefits.

Participating at the Summit will also give innovators the chance to hear from speakers of the world’s leading universities and research institutes, prominent government officials, industry specialists and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who will share their forward-thinking, discuss future policies and develop innovative solutions to today’s urban challenges. Among the confirmed speakers and contributors for this year’s summit is Tong Yen Ho, Chief Executive Officer of Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Co. Ltd; Arab Hoballah, Chief of Sustainable Consumption and Production/SCP at UNEP; Richard Register, Founder of Ecocity Builders and the International Ecocity Conference Series; as well as other leading local and global experts.

The 11th edition of ECWS will be hosted in the UAE capital by the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD), supported by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Urban Planning Council and Masdar; and facilitated by Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI) with Abu Dhabi Tourism & Cultural Authority as the destination host. The premier conference series will tackle the issues around building ecocities in challenging environments, and will serve as the platform upon which Abu Dhabi, and the region, will carry their ecocity visions forward.
