Singapore: international recognition for BCA’s green building masterplan

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has been conferred international recognition for its Green Building Masterplan.

It won the inaugural Regional Leadership Award for efforts to steer the construction industry towards sustainable development in Singapore and for its leadership in the green building movement in the Asia Pacific.

The award was announced by the World Green Building Council (WGBC) in Durban, South Africa.

Ms Jane Henley, WorldGBC’s Chief Executive Officer, said Singapore’s achievements clearly demonstrated that greening building is not only achievable, but also affordable and practical.

BCA formulated the Green Building Masterplan that sets out specific initiatives to achieve the national target of greening at least 80 percent of buildings in Singapore by 2030.

Its current focus is on greening existing buildings.
