Green Business Decision Makers to Convene at the Green-Biz 2013 in Hanoi, Vietnam

HANOI, 19 September 2013 –  The European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) holds the third edition of Green-Biz Conference and Exhibition on European Green Business Solutions for Vietnam (Green-Biz 2013) today and tomorrow, 20th September, 2013 at Melia Hanoi Hotel.

Following the similar format of the first and second GREEN-BIZ events, Green-Biz 2013 will attract key European and Vietnamese participants from academia, public bodies, civil society, international organizations, press and private businesses. The focus of our third edition of Green-Biz is even more towards the real, practical challenges and outcomes. Green-Biz 2013 will be an integrated B2B and B2G event that comprises both a conference and an international exhibition. It will showcase European Green Business Solutions for Vietnam, enable public-private dialogue but also create a bridge for Vietnamese and European businesses.

The conference of Green-Biz 2013 will focus on the main topics: (i) Awareness raising ongoing green, including green education and green mindset, health and access to healthcare, (ii) Cleaner production (e.g. ISO certificate and the relevance of sustainability requirements in the on-going EU-Vietnam FTA negotiation which ensure high quality of products for successful domestic business and foreign market penetration and competition), (iii) Resource management (water and waste treatment, renewable energy, sustainable and holistic urban development).

Green-Biz 2013 is privileged to have the participation of high level decision makers from EU, Mr. Karl Falkenberg, Director-General for Environment of the European Commission;Mr. Gunnar Oom, Vice Minister of Trade of Sweden; Ms. Beata Jaczewska, Deputy Minister of Environment of Poland and relevant Ministries and Institutes of European countries, Czech Ministry of Environment, Stockholm Environment Institute, Future Megacities/University of Hamburg and Swedish Centre for Environmental Technology Cooperation. Besides, the participation of Embassies and Chambers of EU countries including the Embassy of Poland in Hanoi, the Embassy of Denmark in Hanoi, UBIFRANCE Vietnam, and the German Industry and Commerce Vietnam will also contribute to the success of Green-Biz 2013.

Swedish Vice Minister for Trade, Mr Gunnar Oom mentioned that “Sustainable development is a key objective for the Swedish Government, both at home and abroad. Many Swedish companies have developed world-leading green technologies. Swedish society has proven that economic growth and sustainable development can go hand in hand. I am very happy and proud to come to Vietnam and Green-Biz together with a group of Swedish companies which represent some of the best of what Sweden has to offer, and can share their experiences with Vietnamese counterparts.”

From the Vietnamese Government, the MoIT has agreed to co-organize Green-Biz 2013 again after a successful Green-Biz2011, which shows attention of Vietnamese Government on Green Business Solutions. EuroCham also is proud to secure the presence of Deputy Ministers from key ministries such as the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), the Ministry of Construction (MoC), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) and the Ministry of Health (MoH). High level speakers from Departments, Agencies and Institutes of Ministries confirmed to attend different sessions of the conference.

From the international institutes, the Green-Biz 2013 will welcome Ms. Pratibha Mehta ,Resident Coordinator of UN in Vietnam (keynote speaker) and Ms. Victoria Kwakwa, Country Director of World Bank in Vietnam, Mr. Tomoyuki Kimura, Country Director, ADB. From the private sector side, Mr. Hasan Rehan, Regional Professional Segment Director of Philips; Mr. Christopher Ong, General Director of DHL-VNPT Express Ltd., Mr. Xavier Denoly, Country Director of Schneider Electric Vietnam & Cambodia and Dr. Pham Thai Lai, CEO and President of Siemens will join the event.

Not only addressing macro-level topics, the conference of Green-Biz 2013 will also cover parallel workshops with various specific topics such as Symbio City – the Swedish trademark for sustainable urban development, carbon trading,  Poland -Vietnam Environmental Protection Forum; Business partnership opportunities with Czech enterprises; FTA EU – Vietnam negotiations;  and Triple Helix – Working Together in Waste, Energy and Water Management

Mr. Preben Hjortlund, Chairman of EuroCham, commented that “With support from Government of EU nations, EU countries’ Embassies in Vietnam and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, we believe that Green-Biz 2013 will introduce advanced European green business technologies to Vietnamese Government and enterprises and also provide the leading platform for debate and finding solutions for Businesses, Government and Academia to address the broad topic of Sustainable Development in Vietnam.”

The exhibition will feature technologies from approximately 70 European firms including Philips Electronics Vietnam Ltd., Schneider Electric Vietnam, Holcim, Siemens Ltd. Especially, Exhibition 2013 welcomes as well country pavilions from Denmark, Poland, Germany, France, Sweden and Czech.

The Polish pavilion will be organized jointly by the Polish Ministry of Environment’s GreenEvo Program and the Embassy of Poland in Hanoi. At least twelve Polish companies will exhibit at this pavilion, in the area of energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste, water and waste water management, air protection and noise monitoring. The Polish technologies will include wet agro-biomass briquetting (Asket), reduction of industrial pollution emissions and disposal of rubber municipal waste and biomass processing under pyrolysis (Dagas), communal waste treatment through hybrid sewage sludge drying (Ekotop), a complex technology of water treatment with reagents (EnergoNatura), noise and environmental monitoring stations (Far Data), water turbines (Hydroenergia), disposal of ammunition (Jakusz), energy-saving construction solutions and technologies (M3System, Makroterm), high-quality water production from industrial waste water (PP-Eko), gasification technology (Qenergy) andCTE Carbotech Engineering S.A.

With an aim to support Vietnam in its transition to a green economy and green growth, Danish Pavilion at the Green Biz 2013 will introduce to Vietnamese users in both industries and households the Danish technologies in waste to energy, energy efficiency equipment and materials. Denmark is home to world leading companies and research institutions within the area of onshore and offshore wind, green buildings, the water sector, bio-energy and maritime cleantech. Denmark also has strong competencies in some niche areas of the smart grid and waste management industries. Denmark has decided to lead the transition to a green growth economy and will be independent of fossil fuels by 2050 as the first country in the world.

The German pavilion will offer a wide range of solutions and technologies from chemicals and crop protection product, oil, gas and thermo, drive and control technology, security system to renewable energy. There will be participation of BASF, Messer Industrial Gas Co.Ltd, Robert Bosch Vietnam Co. Ltd., etc.

The French pavilion will bring its most comprehensive solutions to practical problems in Vietnam: clean river transportation, water treatment, biological product and renewable energy engineering, and flood management. There will be participation of Alstom, EDF Group, Priama, BC Solar, APB Environment, BRL, etc.

The Swedish Embassy in Hanoi, Swedish CENTEC Vietnam and Business Sweden will host a Swedish Pavilion under the theme “Sustainability by Sweden” at expo. In the booth Swedish Green Technologies will be displayed focusing on solutions within Waste Treatment, Water Resource Management and Renewable Energy. The Urban Transport technologies and solutions focus on a number of elements such as Urban & transport planning, Traffic control & monitoring systems, Public transport solutions, Accessibility and Alternative fuels.

The Czech pavilion will be supported by The Ministry of Environment. Czech companies will introduce nanotechnology business from Advanced Materials-JTJ s.r.o, environment protection through geology and environmental remediation from GEOtest, a.s. and provide energy and environmental consultancy – ENVIROS, s.r.o.
