Carrier today introduced a range of high-efficiency chillers to support Malaysia’s coming green building boom. The Evergreen® 23XRV and AquaForce® 30XW-V variable-speed water-cooled screw chillers and Evergreen® 19XR-E twostage centrifugal chiller and heat pump incorporate new technologies to maximize performance and energy saving in demanding commercial and infrastructure projects.

“As a global pioneer of energy efficiency, Carrier is actively supporting government efforts to develop Malaysia as a regional hub for green technologies,” Mr. Kong Wai Yong, General Manager of Carrier Malaysia, said. “Our approach is to continue to partner with our customers, including building owners, architects and developers, in creating green solutions that minimize lifetime air-conditioning operations and maintenance costs.”

Mr. Chong Wai Yen, Managing Director of Carrier Malaysia, added, “Carrier chillers boost energy efficiency and support high voltage applications to decrease initial investment and help building owners reduce the carbon footprint of their properties. We offer a diverse portfolio of sustainable solutions for new construction and retrofit projects.”

In June, the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore studied 36 commercial buildings and found that an efficient chiller system can reduce air-conditioning energy consumption by up to 42% and decrease a building’s overall energy consumption by 16%. The total energy saved was 85 GWh per annum, which could power almost 170,000 average households in Malaysia.

“Many factors influence the choice of a building’s chiller system, including its design, function and usage patterns. To achieve optimum performance and energy saving, building owners or operators need to carefully analyze their building’s needs and match these with available chiller solutions,” explained Mr. Kong.

The AquaForce 30XW-V screw chiller and heat pump and Evergreen 19XR-E two-stage centrifugal chiller and heat pump, for example, are ideal for green hotels, subway transport, office buildings and retrofit projects, while the Carrier Evergreen 23XRV screw chiller is a bestin-class chiller for green buildings and infrastructure projects and already used in a wide variety of buildings.

With a focus on technologies ideally suited for green buildings in Malaysia, Carrier has introduced three new chillers and the Toshiba-Carrier Super Modular Multi System:

• The Evergreen 23XRV screw chiller, with a capacity of 300-600 tons, incorporates a unique compressor design that provides excellent reliability and achieves superior efficiencies at actual operating conditions without comprising the environment.

• The AquaForce 30XW-V screw chiller and heat pump uses the innovative Greenspeed TM variable frequency drive (VFD) technology to help reduce the building’s airconditioning energy consumption by up to 30% while its heat pump maintains a water temperature of up to 50°C.

• The Evergreen® 19XR-E two-stage centrifugal chiller and heat pump incorporates compression technology to deliver an integrated air-conditioning, heat pump, ice thermal storage and energy recovery solution, while also offering VFD and high voltage applications.

• The Super Modular Multi System (SMMS-i) is a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system that delivers high energy-saving performance and permits the use of longer piping to overcome the challenges associated with deploying VRF systems in high-rise buildings.
