Thailand: SCG focuses on HVA business

SCG (Siam Cement Group of Thailand), diversified ASEAN company, has vowed to further expand its high value added product and services (HVA), which contribution to the companies total business is expected to reach 50 percent by 2015 from the current 34 percent.

Kan Trakulhoon, president and CEO of SCG, said the company plans to move ahead with a development of HVA products in accordance with its vision to become ASEAN sustainable business leader.

“We are confident that we are in the right direction and blessed with good success,” Kan said.

Kan noted that sales of HVA products have increased 14 times or a growth rate of 1,400 percent growth in 2012 compared to 90 percent during the period of 2004-2011. HVA sales contribution to overall business is also expected to reach 50 percent by 2015 from the current 34 percent.

The conglomerate has various HVAs under its business divisions in cement, chemicals, paper and building materials.

In addition, SCG has been developing environmentally friendly products and services under the SCG eco value label. SCG eco value products are environmentally friendly and outperform other products in the same category by having a longer shelf life and energy efficient both during manufacturing and actual use.

Kan said that its network in ASEAN has grown continuously with total assets of Bht55.4 billion, approximately $1.85 billion. These are investments in Vietnam, Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar.

“We emphasized the expansion of our investment in key business in ASEAN,” he said.

In the past two years, the company invested Bht7.5 billion, approximately $251 million, for new acquisitions, mergers and Greenfield projects in Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand.

“SCG is set to become a leading sustainable business in ASEAN. We have changed our perspective and business operation approach to embrace the creation of ASEAN Economic Community,” Kan said.

SCG started investing in the Philippine in 1993. Over the years, the Thai company has established the following companies in the country including Mariwasa Siam Ceramics Inc., SCG Marketing Philippines Inc., CPAC Monier Philippines Inc., United Pulp and Paper Co. Inc., SCG Trading Philippines Inc., Green Siam Resources Corp. and Green Alternative Technology Specialist Inc.

During the last century, Kan said, SCG was determined to conduct business guided by moral conscience and sustainable development with good cooperation of SCG staff.

“We are ready to support other organizations and apply good business management practices and sustainability concept to concrete use in order to strengthen the industrial business sector and have everyone grow together sustainably in the region,” said Kan.

“SCG is confident to step into the next century firmly and sustainably,” he said.

SCG has always attributed its success to its loyal workers. Each year SCG invests Bht1.2 billion, approximately $40 million, for human resource development.
