Thailand: bureaucrats talk energy-efficient buildings in Pattaya

The Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency offered Chonburi builders advice on how to comply with Thailand’s energy conservation laws when constructing new buildings.

Danai Egkamol, director of the department’s regulatory bureau, hosted lectures from academics and bureaucrats Dec. 21 at the Cholchan Hotel.

Seven Thai governments, including Pattaya, Bangkok and Chiang Mai, signed an agreement pledging to build green buildings. Three others are expected to join the pact next year.

“This event was organized to sponsor, promote and push for agencies, both private and public, to designs building that utilize energy conservatively and efficiently according to the standards and regulations of the rules of the ministry,” Danai explained.

“The local organizations should voluntarily conserve energy without having the laws force them into yielding to the correct path to build a network of promoting and sponsoring buildings that will conserve energy and to create awareness to build knowledge, understanding and step into the various developments in the future,” he said.
