The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has bestowed a gold rating to the State Bank Staff College in Begumpet, Hyderabad. The rating, which marks the first green rated campus, comes due to the thorough use of sustainable design choices throughout the building. The campus harvests 100% of its received rainfall. Additionally, drought-tolerant species of plants cover 64% of the campus’ landscaped area and outdoor pathways are shaded by over 200 trees.

The campus also boasts 40kW solar panels and was retrofitted with a variety of energy-efficiency technologies such as LED lights and efficient air-conditioning systems.

S Srinivas, deputy executive director of CII-IGBC, spoke about the IGBC’s efforts in greening campuses across India and of the distinction the SBS college campus has achieved.
