A new LEED lab, LEED lab India, has been announced for later this month. The lab is an immersion course designed to educate students in green building practices. The programme aims to create sustainability-focused citizens and green building leaders.

The lab initiative is already instated in international schools in the Middle East, Greater Asia, and Latin America. Now, it has arrived at the Knowledge Institute of Technology (KIOT). Since it’s inception in 2014, the programme has expanded to 18 universities around the globe, including Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) and Feng Chia University in Taiwan.

Mahesh Ramanujam, COO of US Green Building Council and president of Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), explained that the LEED lab programme is a vital educational tool for the preparation of students. He stated that KIOT is committed to creating a sustainable India, with high performance building and a priority of human health.

The programme is targeted at students of architecture and civil and mechanical engineering. The students will learn the principles of LEED, as well as provide a space for students to experiment on ways to certify existing campus facilities.
