The new campus of Singapore’s German European School is set to open in 2018. The new building is planned to make use of environmentally friendly techniques to reduce its carbon footprint. Among the features are a water-harvesting system to be used for irrigation and a façade covered in vertical greenery.
According to Hermann Battenberg, the principal of The German European School Singapore (GESS), The school will aim to improve environmental education concerning the relation between the campus and the environment; integrating it into school subjects. The school also aims to oversee environmentally-oriented activities in surrounding areas in conjunction with the community.
He also stated that The German European School Singapore need to follow the concept of being a truly green school since it is located in an environmentally sensitive area.
