After previously earning the LEED Gold Certification from the Indian Green Building Council, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru is the first airport in India to receive the GreenCo Platinum rating by the Confederation of India’s Industry’s (CII) Green Business Centre.
According to Hari Marar, President Airport Operations of Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), KIA has been constantly working towards a sustainable environment through their green initiatives.
The award given to them hallmarks BIAL’s effort to develop an airport that is sustainable, energy efficient, and green. BIAL received the ‘GreenCo Silver’ rating back in 2012.
Certain criteria such as water conservation, energy efficiency, green supply chain, adoption of biofuel and solar energy for operation, waste management, among others, were evaluated in achieving the award.
