By fulfilling the BCA Green Mark Award requirements, the new campus of International School Brunei (ISB), located in Kg Sg Hanching, will soon be awarded with the BCA Green Mark Gold. The requirement included the developers and designer teams to create green design and green idea, eco-friendly environment which promote energy and water saving as well as eco-friendly indoor design. The award will be given next month.
According to Dr Seteven P Geraghty, the Executive Principal of International School Brunei (ISB), the school is working on new green initiatives such as rain water collection and other sustainable energy practices such as state-of-the-art and eco-friendly AC systems. Furthermore, the school is designed in such a way that the sun can’t enter the classrooms, which means less air conditioning in the rooms.
The recycling efforts made by the school also received the BCA Gold Award. Geraghty also added that since the school had recycled for nine years, they will try and set up green recycling points so the public can bring in green waste (such as grass, leaves and branches) to be recycled into compost.
IBS is the first school in Southeast Asia to receive the Green Flag Award in 2012 and has always placed a ‘strong eco-focus’ in its curriculum and extracurricular activities.
