RAB Global Green Sdn Bhd, a local fire extinguisher manufacturer owned by the Brunei Industrial Development Authority (BINA), located in the industrial site in KG Serasa, has set to begin and is predicted to be completed by the first quarter of 2016.
Features of this eco-friendly factory will include wall and window panels designed to optimize usage of sunlight and help reduce energy consumption. The factory also has a storage capacity of 80,000 gallons to collect and retain rain water.
According to Iffah Billah Hj Junaidi, the company’s director, the progress for constructing the factory has reached up to 80 per-cent in completion but still await for the ‘skin’ and glass to be installed. However, concerns are heightened as the site is located near the ocean. The reason being that the hollow beams of the building tend to rust easily and at a fast rate, resulting in construction difficulties.
The technical director of RAB Global Green, Han Yean, added that the initial cost of the green building is typically pricey, however in the long run it will reduce the need of regular maintenance and as a result will be significantly cheaper.
Han also emphasized the fact that this green factory will be the first privately-owned green building in Brunei and will be certified under the Leadership in Energy & Enviromental Design (LEED) certification system.
